Powered by an Intel Xeon D-1521 quad-core (4 cores / 8 threads) processor with AES-NI and 8 GB DDR4 ECC UDIMM (expandable to 64 GB across 4 slots), the RS3618xs delivers fast sequential throughput and high iSCSI random IOPS. The unit includes 12 hot-swappable 2.5"/3.5" SATA drive bays and supports expansion up to 36 drives with two RX1217/RX1217RP expansion units. Dual PCIe 3.0 x8 slots support optional 10GbE/25GbE NICs or M.2 adapter cards for SSD cache. DiskStation Manager (DSM) provides enterprise features including Btrfs/EXT4 support, snapshot replication, virtualization integration (VM Manager, VMware, Hyper-V, Citrix, OpenStack), iSCSI, link aggregation/failover, and comprehensive backup solutions.
